Featured on the left is Ciervo del sol, which is completely colored pencil. I affectionately call it "Sunny D" as a nickname. "Sunny D" was entered into the regional contest, known as VASE, and won a four-the highest rank that it could receive at the regional level. It was then voted to go to the state VASE level where it got another four.
The piece on the right was an experiment with paper cutting. It's titled Pied Piper and is my spin on the old tale. The technique I used allows each piece to be either suspended independently or stacked on another piece. That way, when a light hits it, a shadow is created that gives the illusion of floating. The Pied Piper got a four at the regional level as well but did not pass on to the state level.
